Engine
We’re very pleased to note that Craig Wardner will be assisting us with the TECH INFO section of the website. Craig is a master of performance tuning of motorcycle engines and does much of the engine work for BAD race cars.

This is a brief introduction to dwarf car engines. Let us know what more specific topics you’d like to have discussed in this section.

Rule book specifies that dwarf cars use a production four stroke motorcycle engine that is no larger than 1250 cc. Modifications are permitted within the 1250cc limit. Common modifications are: High compression pistons, cylinder head porting, larger carburetors and high-performance ignition systems. Motorcycle engines that use fuel injection must use the stock fuel-injection system (to help keep costs down). Because of the way the engine is mounted in the chassis, special high-performance exhaust systems are a must.
The most powerful engines in the motorcycle world are found in sport bikes. These engines usually produce over 150 horsepower – quite a lot for a 1000 pound dwarf car! Commonly used motors are in-line four cylinder Suzuki’s GSXR 1000 and 1100, Honda’s CBR 1100XX, Kawasaki’s ZX11 and ZX12 and Yamaha’s R-1. BAD’s Todd Damron uses a Triumph 1200, a rare but powerful choice. A few drivers are currently experimenting with Suzuki’s V-twin TL-1000 motor. Only time will tell how competitive they will be. V-twins are, however, the motor of choice for dirt track motorcycle racers.
